Freshfields Hong Kong Leadership Change: Tim Mak Named Managing Partner

Freshfields has announced that Tim Mak, Head of Dispute Resolution in Asia, will succeed Matt O'Callaghan as Managing Partner of the Hong Kong office, effective August 1, 2026.
With over 25 years of legal practice experience, Tim specializes in complex commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, and enforcement matters. He has long advised clients on major regulatory issues spanning multiple jurisdictions, including Greater China, the US, the UK, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. His client base encompasses investment banks, private banks, insurance companies, asset managers, payment institutions, digital asset service providers, listed companies, and their directors.
Tim joined Freshfields in 2013. Prior to this, he practiced at Herbert Smith and served as an in-house counsel at the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).
